Netflix’s reality sensation, Love is Blind, has made waves in popular culture. The format brings singles together in a unique setting where they forge emotional connections without ever laying eyes on each other. Season 7 particularly spotlighted Marissa’s journey, especially her bond with Ramses.
In a revealing interview on Nick Viall’s podcast a year after filming wrapped up, Marissa candidly shared her experience and the extensive therapy she engaged in both pre- and post-show. She reflected on her Love is Blind journey, stating,
“It’s been a year, and I’ve done a lot of therapy. Before and after the filming. Something I realized that’s so obvious is how people-pleasing I can be and how compromising to my own values I am.”
Marissa was open about her emotional struggles during the series, taking the necessary time to process the various challenges she encountered throughout and after Love is Blind’s Season 7.
Conversations with Ramses on Love is Blind
During the podcast, Nick Viall touched on one of the show’s more contentious scenes, specifically the candid conversation surrounding sexual topics between Marissa and Ramses. Initially, Nick appreciated Ramses for his emotional insight but was taken aback by how the discussion about birth control and intimacy played out.
Nick noted that Ramses appeared to lack awareness on these essential subjects, which felt unexpected considering his age and past marriage experience. When he sought Marissa’s perspective on the incident, she mentioned that the dialogue didn’t seem as shocking in person as it did on screen. Marissa added,
“I’m a bubbly person who doesn’t think before speaking, but in that moment, I fell quiet because I was trying to understand where it was coming from.”
Looking back, Marissa acknowledged that viewing the scene later offered her a new outlook. “It didn’t look good,” she remarked. While Ramses likely didn’t intend for the conversation to come across negatively, her later perspective left her feeling uncomfortable. She clarified that her emotions during filming leaned more towards annoyance than sheer shock, as she attempted to decipher Ramses’ true intentions.
On Editing and Sensitive Topics in Love is Blind
Nick probed Marissa on whether the editing might have distorted the way their conversations were portrayed. He indicated that some sequences could be misrepresented through the editing process. However, Marissa hesitated to place all the blame on the post-production cuts.
She explained that although their complete dialogue, which included a conversation about vasectomies, wasn’t shared, she still recalled feeling a sense of discomfort throughout those discussions. Marissa elaborated on how variables like travel fatigue, vitamin D deficiency, and PMS impacted her emotional state during filming, intensifying her challenges.
A particularly significant moment discussed was her military service, which she felt was handled with judgment. She expressed,
“I felt judged while having the military conversation,” noting that Ramses’ response didn’t sit well with her.
Marissa made a point to address her feelings with Ramses off-camera, explaining how his comments affected her. Despite her best attempts to articulate her emotions, she found herself struggling to navigate the dialogue due to a whirlwind of feelings and perceived scrutiny.
Reflecting on these discussions, Marissa emphasized the importance of the therapy she has continued since filming, stating it has aided her in processing the entire experience. Nick expressed his gratitude for her service and echoed his discontent with how Ramses managed that interaction.
