In Monster Hunter Wilds, not all crafting materials are derived from formidable predators. While many resources include minerals and monster bones, players will also find great use for parts harvested from the gentler herbivore species roaming the landscape. Among these resources, Herbivore Carapaces are relatively abundant and straightforward to collect, though players often notice a scarcity of them in their inventories.
Collecting a Herbivore Carapace in MH Wilds is considerably easier when compared to hunting for more elusive monster parts, like Nerscylla Claws. New players might misjudge their availability due to misconceptions, but locating Herbivore Carapaces is quite manageable—particularly near the initial base camp.
Finding Herbivore Carapaces in Monster Hunter Wilds

Ceratonoths, which resemble dinosaurs, are the primary source of Herbivore Carapaces. These creatures typically travel in herds across Windward Plains. Players can easily find a herd of Ceratonoths right outside the Plains Base Camp, with more available deeper into the grassy areas. To enhance the chances of encountering these herds, consider resting at your tent and waiting until daytime during the Season of Plenty.
These herbivores pose no threat; they will flee if threatened. To effectively hunt them, bringing a ranged weapon like a Bow is advisable, especially since Herbivore Carapaces only drop once players have reached High Rank.

Be prepared to collect more Raw Meat than Herbivore Carapaces, as the latter have an unpredictable drop rate. Nevertheless, a persistent effort in hunting Ceratonoths will yield sufficient carapaces for your crafting needs.
Utility of Herbivore Carapaces

Herbivore Carapaces are instrumental in crafting various talismans and armor sets, notably:
- Doshaguma Alpha and Beta Sets
- Death Stench Set
- Evasion Charm II
- Survival Charm II
The Doshaguma Set offers significant advantages for players seeking armor upgrades in early High Rank. With skills like Free Meal 3 and Recovery Up 2, players can save on resources like High Potions and Max Potions. Additionally, the Might set bonus can enhance attacks, especially for those adept at landing Offset Attacks or triggering Power Clashes.
On the other hand, the Death Stench Set stands out due to its requirement for special crafting materials, including Sinister Cloth, which can only be acquired by trading specific items with designated NPCs. This makes gathering the necessary components for this armor set a unique challenge in MH Wilds.
