The Chainsaw is an essential tool that players will rely on during the early stages of Satisfactory. This valuable tool helps clear trees blocking construction sites for factories and pathways for your resource transport vehicles.
Removing trees not only creates space for your buildings but also provides wood for crafting new items. The Chainsaw is the best equipment for this task, and this article will guide you on how to use it effectively in the game.
How to Unlock the Chainsaw in Satisfactory?
In Satisfactory, players need to accomplish various milestones to gain access to new tools. One such milestone is called “Obstacle Clearing.” This task is part of the tier 2 progression and rewards players with three additional inventory slots and a recipe for crafting biofuel.
The Chainsaw is included in this milestone, and crafting it requires 100 concrete, 500 screws, and 100 cables. Since the Chainsaw operates on biomass, ensure you collect and store some for future use.
How to Craft and Use the Chainsaw in Satisfactory?
Once you achieve the “Obstacle Clearing”milestone, the Chainsaw becomes available for crafting. You will need to gather resources including 15 cables, 5 reinforced iron plates, 25 iron rods, and 160 screws. After crafting the tool, select and equip it from your inventory.
Note that the Chainsaw cannot be used unless you have solid biofuel to power it. Once equipped and fueled with solid biofuel, the Chainsaw enables you to fell trees effortlessly. The Chainsaw features two operational modes:
- Single Mode: Perfect for targeting individual trees or bushes that you wish to cut down.
- Area Mode: Ideal for clearing larger areas, allowing you to fell multiple bushes and trees simultaneously.

When you’re outdoors clearing a large area, using Area Mode will expedite the process. Both modes consume the same amount of solid biofuel, so there’s no downside to selecting Area Mode.
Unlike other games, the Chainsaw in Satisfactory serves purely as a tool, not a weapon for self-defense. Therefore, make sure to equip a weapon in your other hand to fend off any creatures that may attack while you’re using the Chainsaw.
