Terraria has recently introduced its 1.4.5 Update, dubbed Bigger & Boulder, which features an exciting crossover with Palworld. The highlight of this addition is Digtoise, a unique turtle creature that functions as a living drill, transforming the way players mine for resources. Say farewell to tedious digging as you uncover treasures quickly and efficiently!
Whether your goal is to carve expansive tunnels or create vertical shafts effortlessly, Digtoise serves as both a handy tool and an adorable new companion. In this guide, we will delve into how to locate Digtoise, empowering you to embark on your mining journey equipped with your torch and pickaxe.
Locating Digtoise in Terraria

To discover Digtoise, venture into the Underground Desert, a sandy biome situated deep beneath the desert’s surface in your world. This expansive cave teems with yellow sand, pyramids, and various buggy adversaries, including scarabs, alongside the elusive Digtoise.
To reach the Underground Desert, dig downward from the surface of the desert above. Utilize your pickaxe or explosives to create a pathway. Keep an eye out for Digtoise, as it resembles a fossil block embedded in the sandy walls or floor, taking on a distinct round, spiky turtle form. You can mine it using any pickaxe, even a basic copper variant.
One important note: Digtoise can only be found in worlds created after this update. Therefore, if your current world was established prior to this content drop, consider starting anew to encounter Digtoise.
Potions to Enhance Your Digtoise Search
For a more efficient hunt, brew a Spelunker Potion by combining Bottled Water, Blinkroot, Moonglow, and Gold Ore. This potion illuminates treasures and ores, making Digtoise much easier to spot during your mining expedition. Alternatively, consider using a Treasure Finder Potion for sparkling clues that help highlight hidden valuables, including Digtoise. Remember to consume these potions before you delve deeper. Additionally, the Metal Detector accessory can significantly enhance your search efforts.
Summoning and Utilizing Digtoise

Upon successfully mining the fossil block, Digtoise will automatically be added to your inventory. To summon Digtoise, simply left-click, and it will follow you as a loyal pet. You can right-click to safely call Digtoise back or interact near it for an entertaining pet animation. Keep in mind that while Digtoise is most effective before entering Hardmode, it excels at digging through softer blocks but struggles with tougher ores later on.
To direct Digtoise’s digging, position your cursor at the intended location and left-click. Here’s how to utilize its digging capabilities:
- Dig Down: Creates a wide hole straight beneath you.
- Dig to the Side: Crafts a tall pathway to the left or right, perfect for side tunnels.
- Right-Click to Pause: This allows for strategic placements, making it useful for quick mines or base construction.
With Digtoise at your side, your mining adventures in Terraria will never be the same!
