Nine inmates at the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in Brooklyn, where Sean Diddy Combs is currently incarcerated, have been charged with a range of violent crimes that occurred between April and August 2024. The MDC is the only federal prison located in New York City and has gained a reputation for its inadequate living conditions, safety problems, and health risks.
The charges were revealed as the Justice Department and the Bureau of Prisons intensified their efforts to address issues within MDC Brooklyn and hold offenders accountable for their actions. Consequently, nine inmates have been charged with violent offenses.
Andrew Simpson and Devone Thomas face murder charges in a detention facility for allegedly killing their fellow inmate Uriel White on June 7, 2024. Jamaul Aziz, James Bazemore, and Alberto Santiago have been charged with premeditated murder related to the death of inmate Edwin Cordero, which occurred on July 17.
Additionally, four other inmates were convicted of non-fatal assault offenses. Two were charged in connection with an icepick-related altercation, while another was charged for allegedly assaulting a correctional officer.
Following the announcement of these charges, U.S. Attorney Breon Peace stated that violence in correctional facilities will not be tolerated. He expressed:
“Violence will not be tolerated in our federal jails. The charges should serve as a warning to those who would engage in criminal conduct behind bars, and to anyone else who facilitates those crimes: your conduct will be exposed, and you will be held accountable.”
The Brooklyn federal jail houses several high-profile inmates, including Sean Diddy Combs and Sam Bankman-Fried. Combs was arrested in New York on September 16 after being charged with three counts of s*x trafficking and racketeering.
The rapper’s legal team requested bail, highlighting the MDC’s poor living conditions, but their pleas were rejected.
Sean Diddy Combs Removed from Suicide Watch at the Metropolitan Detention Center
Sean Diddy Combs has been removed from suicide watch at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York. The rapper has been detained at the federal facility since September 16, when he was arrested on charges of s*x trafficking, racketeering, and transportation for purposes of prostitution.
Initially placed under suicide watch after his arrest, Combs’ attorney, Marc Agnifilo, stated that this was merely a precautionary measure and that the rapper was not suicidal.
The founder of Bad Boy Records has been visited by several family members recently.
The situation began in November 2023 when Combs’ ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura filed a lawsuit against him, alleging r*pe and s*xual abuse. The lawsuit was settled out of court the following day.
Since then, numerous men and women have come forward with allegations against the hip-hop mogul, claiming s*xual harassment, r*pe, and physical abuse.
In the months following, CNN released harrowing footage from 2016 showing Diddy allegedly abusing Ventura in a hotel lobby.
Federal authorities also conducted searches at the rapper’s homes in Los Angeles and Miami as part of the investigation into his s*x trafficking charges. He was ultimately arrested on September 16 at the Park Hyatt Hotel in Midtown.
According to the Daily News, Diddy’s seven children had a brief conversation with their father in jail, expressing shock at his arrest. Meanwhile, Combs’ attorneys have made multiple requests for bail, all of which have been denied by two different judges.
Combs’ legal team proposed a substantial deal, which included a $50 million compensation and electronic monitoring, yet judges rejected the requests for bail due to security concerns. Diddy is expected to remain in custody pending trial. In explaining the decision to deny bail, Judge Andrew Carter stated:
“The government has proven a danger of obstruction and witness tampering and a danger to the community in general.”
Federal prosecutors have accused Diddy of prior incidents of witness intimidation and evidence tampering, alleging that he recorded videos of s*xual encounters, referred to as his notorious “freak-offs,”using them to blackmail witnesses.
Meanwhile, a former MDC inmate, Larry Levine, has claimed that Diddy has been enjoying “special privileges”in the MDC. Speaking on the show Banfield, he alleged:
“My information from my source is that they’re letting him shower almost every day. It could cause some problems with other inmates as far as jealousy and special privileges. … Apparently, some of the staff is sneaking food into him.”
According to Combs’ attorney Agnifilo, the rapper plans to testify in his own defense during the trial.
