6-foot trans athlete, filmed injuring rival players was allegedly thrown out of rowing teams for objectifying female teammate
The student, who stands at a height of 6 feet, is a student at KIPP Academy in Lynn, Massachusetts. During a girls’ basketball game on Feb. 8, they are said to have caused injury to three opponents. The incident was captured on video and quickly circulated on various social media platforms.
The Collegiate Charter School of Lowell decided to forfeit their game in order to avoid losing more players before the playoffs. As a result of a public outcry, KIPP chose to withdraw from their subsequent game.
According to a report from the Australian magazine Quillette, the 17 or 18-year-old transgender student not only played on the girls’ basketball team but also participated in tae kwon do, rowing, shot put, hurdles, and volleyball.
Prior to the game’s video gaining nationwide recognition, the student, who had a scruffy beard, had been prominently featured in promotional materials for a volleyball All-Star event set to take place on November 9th.
Investigation into Alleged Harassment Incident Leads to Suspension and Removal from Rowing Team
According to a report submitted to the US Senate, the athlete’s participation in rowing activities allegedly caused significant discomfort among her teammates, resulting in her suspension and subsequent removal from the team.
During the 2021-2022 season, the student participated in rowing competitions for a private club in Massachusetts. However, there were allegations of her involvement in a ‘direct case of harassment’ in the team’s changing rooms.
The student in the report presented to the Senate Health, Labor, Pension and Education Committee on March 20 by Republican Senator Bill Cassidy was referred to using male pronouns.
“The male athlete was caught staring openly at one of the female athletes while she changed her clothes in the women’s locker room and remarked.”
The report further claimed that her presence caused numerous issues for the female athletes on the team, resulting in them completely avoiding the locker room.
After the incident, the US Center for SafeSport took action, leading to the transgender athlete being permanently banned from participating in rowing for both the male and female teams.
According to the allegations, several parents of female students from the club reportedly contacted USRowing and claimed that their daughters were pressured into remaining silent about the situation.
Parents of the students claimed that while on their game trips, their daughter had to share a room with a transgender teammate despite not feeling comfortable.
The report stated:
“The rowing team also required the male athlete to room with them on trips. The girls spoke to us about quitting rowing because of the intimidation of being forced to be in a hotel room alone with a male.”
