50 Cent Discusses Financial Losses and Advice to Drake Regarding Kendrick Lamar Beef

On October 22, 2024, rapper 50 Cent sat down for an interview with Billboard, where he discussed the guidance he provided to Drake following the tension between the Canadian artist and Kendrick Lamar that occurred earlier this year. This rivalry saw both rappers exchanging multiple diss tracks aimed directly at one another.

The final diss in their exchange was Kendrick Lamar’s track “Not Like Us.”Although Drake opted not to confront the song directly, many fans and critics alike deemed Lamar the victor in this lyrical battle.

In his conversation with Billboard, 50 Cent recounted advising Drake to rise above the feud and concentrate on the positive aspects of his career. He expressed his thoughts by saying:

“Honestly, I told him, ‘They say you lost, so what? What did you actually lose?’ If you made over $300 million from your last tour, you didn’t lose anything significant, brother.”

Drake and Kendrick once enjoyed a solid friendship before their disagreements began, which were prompted by the release of Drake’s collaborative single with J. Cole titled “First Person Shooter”in October 2023. In March 2024, Lamar responded with his track “Like That,”featuring contributions from Metro Boomin.

Drake also entered the fray that same month during a concert, launching two diss tracks, “Push Ups”and “Taylor Made Freestyle,”in April 2024. Kendrick countered with his single “Euphoria,”followed by several additional songs including “6:16 in LA”and “Family Matters.”

50 Cent’s Insights on the Drake-Kendrick Conflict

In the Billboard interview, 50 Cent underscored the importance of maintaining “creative energy”for Drake, urging him to stay focused on his artistry. He remarked:

“It’s critical to learn how to keep moving forward, pushing your creativity, because that’s what makes you feel alive at times. This beef was beneficial for Hip Hop; it prompted both artists to churn out quality music more rapidly.”

Curtis also mentioned that, due to his “connection with Dre,”he was expected to side with Lamar. While he expressed admiration for Kendrick, he affirmed his support for Drake as well.

“I couldn’t see anything that Drake did as wack throughout this ordeal. They’re labeling him with, ‘Oh, you’re finished, you’re wack.’ I’m like, ‘Nah, don’t buy into that.’ It’s the industry’s attempt to push back against consistency and longevity. When someone keeps winning, there’s always a segment of the Hip Hop community that seeks to push them out.”

The seasoned rapper also tackled the accusations exchanged between Drizzy and Kendrick, pointing out that becoming defensive often leaves someone vulnerable.

In an exciting development, the feud between the two rappers is set to be the central theme of a documentary titled “Public Enemies: Kendrick v Drake.”Deadline first reported on this on October 8, 2024, with a release date yet to be announced.
