5 unknown facts Becky Lynch disclosed in her book – Uncivil first meeting with AJ Lee; former star’s influence & more

In just ten years of her time in the WWE, Becky Lynch has achieved numerous milestones – earning the title of Becky Two Belts, headlining WrestleMania 35, attaining grand slam champion status, and balancing her roles as a mother and wife to Seth Rollins.

In her newly published book, Becky Lynch: The Man: Not Your Average Average Girl, The Irish Star shares reflections on her wrestling career and important moments in her life. Let’s delve into some lesser-known and exclusive details that she unveils in her memoir:

#5. Kevin Owens has been a vocal advocate for Becky Lynch since the beginning

Despite her defeat to Charlotte Flair at Royal Rumble 2016 for the Divas Championship, Becky Lynch still felt unworthy and dejected.

At the event, a photo of the up-and-coming star crying backstage quickly gained traction on the internet. During the same week, Kevin Owens, who was also at a WWE event, took her aside and asked her about the incident in a caring manner. According to reports, Lynch explained that despite the significance of performing at the Royal Rumble, she couldn’t shake off the feeling of inadequacy and fear of her efforts being for nothing.

Despite feeling discouraged, Owens empathized with her situation and lifted her spirits by reminding her that her efforts would eventually be rewarded. Becky Lynch expressed her admiration for the former Universal Champion and praised his approachability, making him someone she could confide in and seek guidance from.

#4. Becky Lynch was not the original plan for the first SmackDown Women’s Champion

In 2015, Nikki Bella made history by holding the Divas Championship for a record-breaking 301 days. However, her signature move, the Rack Attack, took a toll on her neck and eventually became a significant problem in the ring. In order to address this issue, Nikki Bella underwent a neck fusion surgery in early 2016 and made her highly anticipated return to the ring in September of the same year.

After making her return, Becky Lynch had already become a dominant force in the WWE Universe. Fans were fervently cheering and supporting The Man. At the same time, the company had decided to discontinue the Divas Championship and instead introduce the RAW and SmackDown Women’s Titles. This led to a six-way elimination challenge at Backlash in 2016, with Alexa Bliss, Becky Lynch, Carmella, Naomi, Natalya, and Bella all vying for the new titles.

In her book, Lynch emphasizes that Nikki Bella was selected by WWE to become the first SmackDown Champion and continue portraying a heroic character. Nevertheless, the overwhelming support of the fans seemed to have a sway on the company’s ultimate choice.

“As the six of us competitors gathered around the ring before the PPV, each practising our ‘I won’t be sad if they don’t choose me’ faces, Fit (Finlay) found us and bestowed the news. It was official; the crowd’s chorus of ‘Becky’ had been too loud to be ignored. They were carrying me to my first title in WWE,”noted Lynch.

During her WWE career, Becky Lynch has achieved the championship title four times and is now determined to secure a fifth victory at WrestleMania 40.

#3. Becky Lynch Acknowledges Brie Bella’s Role in WrestleMania 32’s Historic Match

In 2015, Becky Lynch, Charlotte Flair, and Sasha Banks (also known as Mercedes Mone) played a crucial role in the transformation of the women’s division. The WWE abandoned the ‘Divas era’ and recognized the women’s talents as equal to those of their male colleagues. They made history by taking part in intense stipulation matches and creating unforgettable moments, solidifying their legacy in the industry.

During their time on WWE NXT, the three women engaged in intense feuds and consistently received standing ovations for their exceptional performances and in-ring skills. During the WrestleMania 32 kickoff, legendary wrestler Lita announced the debut of the WWE Women’s Championship and the decision to refer to female wrestlers as superstars rather than Divas.

At first, the planned match was between Charlotte Flair, who was the Divas Champion at the time, and Sasha Banks. However, according to Lynch’s book, Brie Bella convinced her to also be included in the WrestleMania match and urged her to speak to Vince McMahon about it right away.

The 37-year-old was initially hesitant and nervous about proposing the idea to the former WWE Chairman. However, she mustered her courage and asked to be included in the match, citing her past interactions with the two women on NXT. To her surprise, he promised to take her request into consideration. Although Lynch did not emerge victorious in the match at ‘Mania, she had no idea that her first main roster championship reign was just a few months away.

#2. Confrontation with AJ Lee

AJ Lee and Becky Lynch did not have the opportunity to face each other in the ring. By the time Becky Lynch was on NXT, AJ Lee was close to leaving the company and ultimately retired in 2015.

Before the NXT revamp dominated, Lee was among the handful of stars who were trained in Florida Championship Wrestling. It is a common occurrence for both established stars and up-and-coming talents to interact backstage, whether it be during weekly shows, special live events, or training sessions.

During a particular occurrence, a hopeful and observant Becky Lynch caught sight of AJ Lee backstage. In her entire book, The Man only made a single mention of the former champion. At 37 years old, she felt anxious and determined to leave a lasting mark on anyone she encountered during the early stages of her career.

At that moment, Lynch was in the locker room and happened to catch AJ Lee using her phone to text. Despite an excited Becky attempting to initiate a handshake, all she received in return was a dismissive grunt.

#1. Disliked the Surname “Lynch”

Under the tutelage of Finn Balor, Becky Lynch began her in-ring training in 2002 and adopted the persona of Rebecca Knox.

At the beginning of her WWE career, she went to the NXT trainers and asked for an opportunity to demonstrate her wrestling abilities, even though she hadn’t performed in front of a crowd in seven years. However, as her live show debut was approaching, Lynch realized that she did not have the appropriate attire or character to make a strong first impression.

Despite submitting several names to WWE, none of them were deemed suitable by the company. Instead, they provided her with a list of names to choose from. However, one of the suggested names, Madeline, was rejected by Lynch as she felt it had a negative connotation.

“There was Madeline, which reminds me of those French cakes, hardly the toughest things in the world. Then there was Becky Lynch. I wasn’t sure about the Lynch part. There’s a harshness to it that doesn’t fall trippingly off the tongue, but I liked keeping part of my real name,”stated The Man.

In June 2014, The Man made her debut on NXT television and emerged victorious against Summer Rae (real name Danielle Moinet).
