5 reasons why we need fast travel in LEGO Fortnite
Despite the addition of the Mechanical Mayhem update, fast travel is still not available in LEGO Fortnite. This is despite the implementation of numerous quality-of-life improvements in the F2P (Free-to-play) open-world survival game. The absence of fast travel, a key feature typically found in this genre, should have been addressed from the beginning.
Despite the inclusion of vehicles in LEGO Fortnite with version 19.10, a fast travel system is crucially necessary. This is particularly important if developer Epic Games intends to sustain player engagement and interest in the game in the long run.
Efficient Travel Options in LEGO Fortnite for Streamlined Gameplay
1) The Limitations of Backtracking
The expansive and randomly generated open-world map in LEGO Fortnite is similar to that of Minecraft. Therefore, players may choose to build a simple shelter and even create a village around it. However, for the more daring players, staying within the safety of their shelter is not enough.
The world holds many secrets waiting to be discovered. Due to the unique landmarks, treasures, and other elements found in each player’s world, the mysteries of the world remain unknown. Therefore, it is common for players to spend numerous in-game days exploring the forest biome, enduring the heat of the desert biome, and braving the cold of the tundra in search of thrilling revelations.
Despite the lack of fast travel in LEGO Fortnite, players often encounter issues with navigation. They are required to walk long distances back to their safehouse or village, which hinders their ability to explore and forces them to navigate around potential hazards and obstacles on the map.
2) Promotes safety and resource conservation
In LEGO Fortnite, players must not only defend themselves against hostile creatures, but also manage their hunger and status effects in order to survive. These threats come in the form of fierce wolves and attacking skeletons that appear at night. As players traverse the map, they are likely to encounter these challenges as part of the day-night cycle.
As players journey through various biomes, they will consume and craft food and drinks that could have been previously stored at their base. Exploring different map areas may also bring about debuffs such as cold and heat, which can hinder players. Utilizing fast travel in LEGO Fortnite can assist in mitigating these challenges and improve the overall exploration experience.
3) Owning a vehicle can be a financial burden
While some players may argue that fast travel detracts from the element of surprise in exploration, does it truly diminish it? The current process of gathering resources in various biomes can be tedious, especially when they are located within cave systems. This not only disrespects the time and effort players have invested, but also has the potential to weaken the overall player experience in the future.
Although players have the ability to construct vehicles for transportation, the latest Mechanical Mayhem update introduces even more advanced crafting options. However, there is still a significant amount of backtracking that players must do before and after reaching this point in LEGO Fortnite. Despite this challenge, dedicated fans have managed to create impressive rail networks between their settlements, showcasing their ingenuity and hard work.
4) Streamlines Micromanagement and Production Processes
Regardless of their stance on fast travel, players will likely establish multiple bases across the map, possibly one in each biome. Each region offers unique resources to collect, such as Flexwood from cacti in the desert. With numerous upgrades, a plethora of resources, and various ingredients to gather and manage, utilizing fast travel can alleviate the burden of micromanagement and save valuable time.
This concept also extends to improving and overseeing every village; diverse NPCs will come to a village to assist players in maintaining it, whether it involves farming and cooking, gathering raw materials, or protecting the community from enemy assaults. It is crucial to construct shelters and beds for these NPCs, as well as any newly unlocked buildings and structures, but the cost of investment can be high. Fortunately, fast travel in LEGO Fortnite makes it convenient for players to transport their stored resources wherever they need them.
5) Encouraging player growth and development
In LEGO Fortnite, a convenient method of inter-village travel is available through the use of fast travel. This feature allows players to establish Village Squares, which can then be upgraded to further develop their settlement. By implementing a rank progression system, players can gradually and carefully build their town. In theory, unlocking fast travel between villages after establishing a Village Square would be a viable solution.
If core players believe that this feature is being given to players too easily, it could instead be earned as a reward for fully upgrading the village. This would strike a balance between convenience and progression. Additionally, players could also craft Rifts that can be placed anywhere in the open world. Interacting with these Rifts would transport players back to their village(s), further motivating them to engage in crafting and exploration.
Fortnite by LEGO can be played on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.
