5 NBA players with lowest career average while dropping a 50-point game  

On Wednesday, Detroit Pistons’ point guard Malachi Flynn became a member of the NBA’s 50-point club as he scored 50 points coming off the bench in the team’s loss to the Atlanta Hawks at State Farm Arena.

Despite coming into the game with averages of 4.6 points and 1.6 rebounds, Flynn’s performance against the Hawks’ weak defense propelled the Pistons within striking distance. However, their fourth-quarter comeback fell short as Atlanta managed to hold onto their lead and fend off Detroit’s rally.

Upon observing Flynn’s performance, it was intriguing to note that he was among the players in the league who had consistently low career averages before the competition. After his time with the New York Knicks, he was traded to the Pistons. In total, he has appeared in 206 games in the league, with an average of 5.2 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game.

#5 Evan Fournier

On Jan. 25, 2014, Terrence Ross delivered his best performance to date, scoring 51 points against the LA Clippers. During that time, he was a player for the Toronto Raptors and remained with the team for five seasons.

After spending seven years with the Orlando Magic and one year with the Phoenix Suns, the F/G had his most successful seasons with the Magic, recording averages of 12.7 points and 3.0 rebounds. He concluded his NBA career with averages of 11.0 points and 2.8 rebounds.

#3: Corey Brewer’s Career Highlights

Despite being hailed as a star and a rising talent in college, Corey Brewer did not experience the same level of success in the NBA and ultimately settled into a role player position for the Minnesota Timberwolves.

In a memorable game for Brewer, who has a career average of 9.1 points per game, he led the Timberwolves to a 112-110 victory over the Houston Rockets with an impressive 51-point performance. He went 19-30 from the field and converted 11-of-15 free throws to reach the 50-point mark. He finished the game with 8.7 points and 2.8 assists.

#2 Walt Wesley: A Legendary NBA Player

During his tenure in the NBA, Walt Wesley played for several teams including the Chicago Bulls, Milwaukee Bucks, Philadelphia 76ers, LA Lakers, and Cleveland Cavaliers.

During his career, he played a total of 590 games and averaged 8.5 points and 5.5 rebounds. However, his standout performance was with the Cavaliers when he scored 50 points against his former team, the Cincinnati Royals, on Feb. 19, 1971.

Tracy Murray spent 14 seasons in the NBA and played for a total of six different teams, making him a true journeyman in the league.

On Feb. 10, 1998, during a game between the Washington Wizards and the Golden State Warriors, Murray, a bench player, had a memorable night. Despite it being his first start of the season, he scored 50 points on 18-of-29 shooting.

Despite his career numbers being those of a role player with limited playing time, he still managed to average 9.0 points and 2.5 rebounds.
