40 Essential Preparations for Deltarune Chapters 3 and 4

40 Essential Preparations for Deltarune Chapters 3 and 4

Deltarune has undergone a lengthy development process, and after a four-year hiatus, the upcoming Chapters 3 and 4 will significantly expand the game’s content. This presents players with new opportunities and challenges to explore.

Created by Toby Fox, who initially gained fame with Undertale, Deltarune carries forward the concept of player choices affecting game content, albeit to a lesser extent. In this game, players can revisit previous chapters to recover missed items and collectibles. True to his style, Toby Fox has crafted one-time collectibles and battles that may become valuable in the unfolding storyline.

Below, I’ve compiled a comprehensive list of important, potentially missable items from Chapters 1 and 2. These could prove to be crucial as we look forward to the release of Chapters 3 and 4.

Missable Items in Deltarune

Glowshard #1

Screenshot of Glowshard #1 in Deltarune.

The first collectible is in the Chapter 1 Dark World, where players will encounter a fork in the path. Inspecting the wall after heading down will reward you with the Glowshard.

One of these shards exists in every chapter, primarily used to instantly spare a Rudin. However, it’s advisable to save them until Chapters 6 or 7, as their selling prices increase with each chapter.

Broken Cake/Spin Cake

The quest for the Broken Cake is straightforward; you’ll find it along the primary route. After encountering Malius in the Scarlet Forest, getting him to repair it will allow you to backtrack to the Top Chef where you initially discovered the cake, or save this for Castle Town in Chapter 2.

Although the Top Cake is powerful and has a one-time use, trading it with the Top Chef for the renewable Spin Cake is a more strategic choice throughout your journey.

White Ribbon

Screenshot of the White Ribbon in Deltarune.

You’ll find the White Ribbon in a chest at the Field of Hopes and Dreams; it’s crucial to navigate down and left to acquire it. This item boosts defense and prompts Ralsei to express an endearing message upon equipping.

Later, when you find another ribbon, you can fuse them together to create a significantly enhanced item.

Broken Key C

Screenshot of Broken Key C in Deltarune.

This essential key component comes into play during the encounter with Jevil. It’s located above the entrance to the chessboard, accessible via a code: Diamond, Heart, Club, Spade. You can input this before reaching the Card Castle, which helps eliminate backtracking later.

The Scarlet Forest

Ragger

Screenshot of the Ragger in Deltarune.

After recovering from eating Salsa from a tree stump, you’ll confront enemies wielding diamonds in a circular formation. To find the Ragger, synchronize your movements with the diamonds.

This attack item can be especially useful for Ralsei, who might struggle with damaging foes, making it worthwhile if you aim to take a violent approach against Jevil.

Dice Brace

Screenshot of the Dice Brace in Deltarune.

Following the escape with Lancer and Susie, solving a suit pattern puzzle will lead you to the Dice Brace, granting +2 DEF to any character. This item proves incredibly useful for Chapter 1.

Broken Key B

Screenshot of Broken Key B Path in Deltarune.

Accessing Broken Key B requires navigating through a room filled with dancers and then taking a hidden path to a chest guarded by Rabbicks. This key is essential for your progress with Jevil.

Starwalker/Egg #1

These collectibles are closely positioned in one room. Navigate through the area where a flying star attacks you, then return to the Starwalker’s previous zone until you find an isolated tree. Interact with it to meet a character who can provide an egg, which holds minor importance.

Iron Shackle/Moss

Screenshot of the Iron Shackle in Deltarune.

After you’re imprisoned, you can quickly snag the Iron Shackle, an item enhancing both attack and defense. When you reach Castle Town in Chapter 2, fusing this item with a Glow Wrist will create the Spike Band, balancing between lower defense for higher attack power.

Exploring Card Castle

Broken Key A/Jevil

Make your way back to the elevator leading out of prison. Engaging with the buttons will reveal a new option to descend to the basement. After retrieving the final Broken Key part from Seam’s shop, collect some Amber Cards as well.

Once you’ve done this, hand the key over to Malius to prepare for a showdown against the superboss Jevil.

Defeating him rewards you with the Devil’s Knife for Susie, enhancing her attack, magic, and providing discounts on using the Rude Buster technique, making her a formidable attacker.

Alternatively, if you choose to pacify Jevil using Ralsei, you’ll obtain Jevil’s Tail, which boosts attack, magic, and defense for any character, making it a more versatile and beneficial option.

Dainty Scarf/Brave Ax

Screenshot of the Dainty Scarf and Brave Ax in Rouxls Kaard's Shop in Deltarune.

Rouxls Kaard may join you in Chapter 2, but his shop remains exclusively available in Chapter 1. The Brave Ax serves as a solid weapon for Susie. Meanwhile, the Dainty Scarf reallocates some of Ralsei’s attack for magic, making it invaluable for a character tailored for healing.

Diverging Routes in Deltarune

Screenshot of King's Dialogue in Deltarune.

At this juncture, players must make significant decisions affecting the narrative. Unlike Undertale’s explicit no-mercy route, Deltarune diverges based on whether you choose to spare or defeat enemies.

This choice alters the ending slightly, with the king either being carried away or lulled to sleep by Ralsei. Given the intricate narrative evolution in Chapter 2, it would be wise to maintain separate save files for both violent and pacifistic paths, as future events may hinge on your choices.

If you unintentionally harm an enemy while aiming for a peaceful route, you can visit their room at Card Castle and apologize to rectify your standing.

Regardless of the chosen path, venturing back to the light world afterward means no save points are available, locking your choices once you complete the chapter.

Chapter 1 Light World: Important Interactions

Visit Everyone

Before progressing, ensure you interact with various characters during the brief Light World section of Chapter 1 to unlock future interactions in Chapter 2.

Meet Undyne, who is unfamiliar with Alphys; visit Rudy in the hospital; and explore the bunker playing the slowed-down noise from Entry #17. It’s crucial to converse with Sans to secure an invitation for a hangout with his brother. Don’t forget to knock on what seems to be Mettaton’s door and spend time by the ocean with Onionsan for vital storylines.

Optionally, a visit to Asgore enables you to place the previously collected egg in his fridge. While its significance is unclear, there’s a similar scenario in Chapter 2, justifying the action.

If you want to trigger a fun scene at the start of Chapter 2, mention Susie to Noelle, claiming that she has a penchant for eating chalk. Following that, you can engage in bathroom antics before resting and correctly saving your progress.

Chapter 2 Dark World: Discoveries and Dialogues

Castle Town Visit #1/Silver Card

While Castle Town offers limited immediate benefits, players should seek out exclusive dialogues from Toriel and Alphys by heading down with the Trash Orb, as well as additional conversations with Seam regarding Jevil.

Moreover, you can access extended storage; be sure to store items like the Glow Shard and fuse Amber Cards into a Silver Card for increased monetary gain throughout Chapter 2.

Cyber Field Adventures

Glow Wrist

Screenshot of the Glow Wrist in Deltarune.

This early Dark World item can be easily obtained by heading right along the pathway before the first Teacup ride. The Glow Wrist boosts DEF by +2, making it a solid replacement if you lost an Amber Card due to the Silver Card.

Ultimately, however, it is better utilized when fused with the Prison Shackle back in Castle Town.

Fiber Scarf

Image of the Fiber Scarf in Deltarune.

After a brief tutorial on violence from Ralsei, navigate to the right and complete a simple APPLE puzzle to earn a Fiber Scarf, which provides +2 Attack and +2 Magic. Although it seems superior to the Dainty Scarf, the latter offers bonus healing, making it more beneficial in many situations.

Glow Wrist 2/Blue Checksmark 1

Although a second Glow Wrist may appear redundant, it serves a minor role in a side quest. The green mouse-pointer character will challenge you to find Blue Checksmarks, rewarding you upon completion.

After you proceed through some falling bars, collect the Glow Wrist and your first Blue Checksmark, marking your progress in this engaging side quest.

Blue Checksmarks 2 and 3

Screenshot of the Hacker Man choosing to Live In Your City in Deltarune.

In a nearby room featuring three teacup rides, collect additional two Checksmarks. The first challenge requires spelling “GIASFELFEBREHBER, ”while the other is simply found in a chest. Engaging with the Hacker after each successful finding opens up further interactions in Queen’s Mansion and Castle Town down the line.

Mecha Saber/Auto Axe

Screenshot of the Mecha Saber and Auto Axe in The Guys' Shop in Deltarune.

Visit The Guys’ shop after dancing with them to acquire two valuable weapons: the Mecha Saber for Kris and the Auto Axe for Susie. The Mecha Saber currently stands as Kris’s best weapon, though the Auto Axe pales in comparison to the Devil’s Knife if you chose the more violent route against Jevil.

Tension Bit

Screenshot of the Tension Bit in Deltarune.

Within the room adjacent to the dancing save icon, proceed to the right and down to find the Tension Bit. This item replenishes 32% TP in battle, though avoid using it at this stage; save its potential for a later powerful accessory fusion.

Ragger 2

Screenshot of the Ragger 2 in Deltarune.

To obtain the Ragger 2, successfully hit all the arrows during the next expansive Teacup ride. While challenging, this item represents an upgrade to the original Ragger, providing a formidable attack stat at the slight cost of magic, making it an option to consider depending on your playstyle.

Cyber City

New Save

Screenshot of the City Save Point right before joining Noelle in Deltarune.

After your characters are split up, you can choose to embark on the Weird Route. While I recommend making a new save file for this specific No Mercy run, you can create copies here as a starting point.

This route uniquely involves using Noelle to freeze every enemy and making numerous dialogue choices, with certain items only available on this path.

Pink Ribbon

Once you and ViroViroKun successfully teach Noelle about battle mechanics, venture down to the left and into a secluded alley to discover the Pink Ribbon. A crucial item for both routes, it boosts your Graze area, improving TP gain for spells and healing and serving as a valuable fusion material later.

Bounce Blade

Screenshot of the Bounce Blade in Deltarune.

In the same vicinity where you can acquire various items, opening a chest leads to the Bounce Blade. Though it features a lower attack stat compared to the Mecha Saber, it provides a DEF bonus and can be beneficial if you prefer Blade Bouncing tactics.

Moss 2/Egg 2

In the traffic room filled with red and yellow cars, moving past the red ones will lead you to a path with caution signs. As the yellow cars remain stopped, venture further left into another room with free moss. Interacting with the tree inside offers you yet another egg, albeit one of lesser importance than earlier.

Car NPC

Queen saying

A small yet amusing detail: if you dodge all the vehicles while riding with Queen and Noelle, you’ll unlock a car NPC back in Castle Town. The simplest strategy is holding both left and right simultaneously.

Queen’s Mansion: Noteworthy Items

Big Shot Bowtie/Royal Pin

Screenshot of the Big Shot Bowtie and Royal Pin in Swatch's Shop in Deltarune

Once you enter the Café in Queen’s Mansion, you’ll have access to both the Big Shot Bowtie and Royal Pin for purchase, along with the Spaghetti Code, which serves as a helpful healing item.

The Royal Pin stands out as an excellent armor piece, while the Big Shot Bowtie, despite being slightly underwhelming, is crucial for fusions later, making it wise to obtain it now.

KeyGen/Broken Sword

Screenshot of Spamton's Shop in Deltarune.

When near the fast travel door, take the opportunity to revisit the garbage dump and enter Spamton’s shop. After your conversation with him, be sure to purchase the KeyGen while avoiding a hefty price mishap.

Other useful items include the Broken Sword and Frayed Bowtie, which might not seem critical now but could gain value later in your adventures.

Chain Mail/Basement

After encountering the tall cat lady, you will find the Hacker in a room past the traffic. His hints will lead you to discover a backdoor in this area.

The Chain Mail located in the chest boosts defense by 3, making it superior to many other armors. Follow the Hacker to access the backdoor, enabling a shortcut to the main room. Explore the basement afterward to explore challenging sections and recover the Empty Disk from Mettaton’s lifeless body for Spamton later.

Glowshard #2

Screenshot of Kris getting Glowshard #2 in Deltarune.

As you ascend in Queen’s Mansion, be sure to investigate a room with butlers chasing pots. You can either ignore this encounter or engage before heading to the first dark door in the hallway.

Engaging all the cloches here, despite incoming attacks, rewards you with another Glow Shard destined for later chapters.

Spamton NEO

Prior to confronting Queen, venture back to rid Spamton of the Empty Disk. When consulted, he will input himself into the disk for further use.

Be equipped with ample healing items and revivals acquired before facing Queen, then use the new disk with Spamton’s body to initiate the boss battle. Despite being challenging, a one-time press of F1 grants a free heal in this fight.

As with Jevil, a choice arises: spare Spamton for the Deal Maker or attack for the Puppet Scarf. Opting for the Deal Maker yields exceptional benefits with defense and monetary gain, whereas the Puppet Scarf enhances Ralsei’s attack but lowers healing potential. It’s recommended to avoid violence unless absolutely necessary.

Regardless of your decision, you will acquire a Shadow Crystal, which may play a significant role later in your journey.

Castle Town Second Visit: Objectives and Dialogues

Chapter 2 All Stars and Fusions

Now that the fountain has been sealed, return to Castle Town for fresh dialogue and a wealth of new items, particularly fusion opportunities.

First, challenge Jigsaw Joe in the Party Dojo, where you can acquire the Tension Gem—much like the Tension Bit, it shouldn’t be used in battle but will be relevant for future fusions.

Screenshot of the Twin Ribbon in the Fusion Menu in Deltarune.

Visit the Top Bakery next to fuse your items: combine ribbons into a Twin Ribbon, blend the Glow Wrist with the Iron Shackle to create a Spike Band, and fuse the Big Shot Bowtie with the Tension Bit to form a Tension Bow.

The Twin Ribbon significantly enhances your Graze Range while providing an additional 3 DEF. The Tension Bow pairs well with the Ribbon for extra TP gain and defense. The Glow Wrist offers a highly offensive item at the expense of defense, while the DD-Burger improves healing options if you possess Dark Burgers.

Ensure to visit the café to see a unique Swatch sprite from the LTS demo, affirm your recruit status, and access exclusive dialogue with Seam about the Chapter 3 secret boss before you conclude your Castle Town visit.

Chapter 2 Light World: Wrapping Up

Revisiting Everyone

In your Light World journey, make stops to converse with various characters to unlock enriching dialogues for Chapter 2.Start by introducing Susie to Rudy, delivering chocolates from Undyne to Alphys, and encountering Father Alvin at the Graveyard.

Make sure to explore the Gaster-related Bunker and chat with Sans about a potential delay. You can deposit the egg from before into a basket or choose to keep it for yourself.

Check back with Mettaton’s presumed door, rest by the beach for foreshadowing, and immerse yourself in nostalgia while ensuring your save file is primed for upcoming challenges.

Weird Route: Exploring the Dark Side

Starting Incident

Screenshot of the Ice Shock Spell in the Deltarune fight menu.

If interested in the Weird Route (also known as the Snowgrave Route), proceed; otherwise, your journey concludes here. This path commences upon adding Noelle to your party in the Cyber World, with preceding actions holding little weight.

As Noelle joins, backtrack extensively. Despite her protests, prioritize utilizing her Ice Shock ability exclusively to defeat every enemy encountered. It’s critical not to miss any encounters to maintain this route.

Frozen enemies will produce a specific sound effect, confirming your progress on the route. Continue operating solely with Ice Shock, as sparing or conventional defeating methods will derail the journey.

Freeze Ring

Approaching the shopkeeper, they may inquire about a Freeze Ring.Respond affirmatively to every query to witness Noelle using her powers to claim the ring yet erase it from her memory.

To intensify the journey, insist Noelle accompany you on the Ferris Wheel, activating dialogues where she articulates some inner conflict. Moving forward, keep equipping the Freeze Ring on Noelle, commanding her to use Ice Shock throughout your adventures until reaching the dumpster from earlier.

Thorn Ring

Engaging with the dumpster will prompt Spamton to mention a special ring available post-mission. Ensure to eliminate every enemy before confronting Zigzag and speaking to Spamton once more.

After defeating the last enemy, you will receive the Thorn Ring for a nominal fee. Equip it on Noelle before taking on the Berdly encounter.

Aborted Snowgrave

Screenshot of Noelle saying Berdly

At this juncture, you may opt to spare Berdly, allowing the route to resume ordinarily. In this case, take off the Thorn Ring and save it for potential future fusions.

Snowgrave

However, if your intention is to continue down this path, the final step involves freezing Berdly. Do not use Ice Shock immediately; instead, build up to 100% TP through defense, then direct Noelle to trigger Snowgrave, conditionally if the ring is equipped.

She may initially resist, but persist in commanding her to unleash Snowgrave. Berdly will succumb to being encased in ice, culminating your journey into this path.

Spamton NEO DX

Screenshot of Spamton saying he's Becoming God in Deltarune.

Upon navigating the chapter, discover that you’ve bypassed half of Chapter 2’s content by committing to this route. Many areas will no longer be accessible as the castle gets overrun, and items will be missed due to your choices.

Upon reaching Spamton NEO, ensure you’re stocked up for the encounter as you won’t have many opportunities. In this set of battles, focusing on defensive strategies while utilizing X-Slash and maintaining health is crucial.

Though you may not achieve every action perfectly, the end result seals the fountain, leading you safely through this unusual adventure.

Proceed

Returning to the Light World, the scenarios mostly echo previous experiences, with some alterations arising based on events you’ve decided. Speaking to Rudy in the hospital serves as a stark reminder of the consequences faced along the Weird Route.Consider walking towards her or donning her watch to provoke additional reactions.

Ultimately, your saves should reflect a clear path between True Pacifist and Weird Route exploration. Do not forget to survey the credits screen to secure your completion data, preparing you effectively for Chapter 3.
