3 things that would’ve happened if Roman Reigns retired from WWE in 2020
Roman Reigns, a member of The Bloodline, is widely recognized as one of the top figures in the world of pro wrestling. With a reign of over 1300 days as Universal Champion, The Tribal Chief has solidified his place in the annals of sports entertainment for years to come.
Despite his incredible display of dominance, it is unlikely that anyone will be able to match Reigns’ greatness. Interestingly, Paul Heyman, Reigns’ Special Counsel, disclosed that during his break from WWE in the pandemic era of 2020, The Head of the Table came close to retiring.
If he had retired, he would not have been able to come back as The Tribal Chief, win the Universal Title, form The Bloodline, and lead some of the most iconic storylines in professional wrestling history.
Conversely, the landscape of WWE would have been completely altered had Roman Reigns retired from the ring in 2020.
#3. The Fiend’s Potential for a Dominant Universal Championship Reign
Upon his return at SummerSlam 2020, Roman Reigns was accompanied by Paul Heyman and displayed a newfound aggression. His sole objective was to regain the Universal Title that was taken from him.
The Universal Championship was won by the Tribal Chief at Payback 2020 when he emerged victorious in a Triple Threat match against Braun Strowman and “The Fiend”Bray Wyatt, marking the beginning of an incredible run in the world of sports entertainment.
If Reigns had not come back, the initial result would have been an extended reign as world champion for the late Wyatt. The Fiend had successfully defeated Strowman at SummerSlam 2020, but lost the title to The Head of the Table less than a week later.
Unfortunately, this ended up being the last title reign for the late superstar in WWE, as he tragically passed away in August 2023. While Reigns’ impressive championship run has been outstanding, many fans had hoped that Wyatt’s final reign would have been more significant.
#2. The Usos’ Potential Reunion and Future Tag Team Success
The Bloodline was created with the purpose of safeguarding Roman Reigns, the unquestioned leader and The Head of the Table. The Usos were his most devoted followers, carrying out his orders and acting as dependable safeguards.
The Bloodline’s journey ultimately came to a tumultuous conclusion in 2023 with the highly acclaimed implosion saga. The departure of Sami Zayn at Royal Rumble 2023 planted the initial seeds, but tensions between The Tribal Chief and The Usos escalated when they failed to retain the Undisputed WWE Tag Titles at last year’s WrestleMania.
The WWE Universal Champion continued to disrespect his cousins until Jimmy Uso reached his breaking point and Superkicked Reigns at Night of Champions in May 2023. Initially hesitant, Jey eventually joined forces with his brother to stand up against the tyrannical Tribal Chief.
Despite appearing to be in agreement, everything changed when Jimmy caused Jey to lose the Undisputed WWE Universal Title at SummerSlam 2023. Jey, the older twin, had faith that his former Right Hand Man would one day become as cunning and manipulative as Roman Reigns, the Tribal Chief.
Jimmy and Jey are set to collide at WrestleMania XL. The involvement of The Bloodline and Reigns’ actions were the catalyst for this showdown, resulting in a series of events that led to this intense confrontation.

It is undeniable that Roman Reigns’ reign as Universal Champion has had a profound impact on the world of professional wrestling, leaving a lasting mark on the industry. This significant achievement is a testament to his exceptional skill and dominance in the ring.
Despite removing the last three and a half years from his career, the Samoan superstar would still be deserving of a Hall of Fame induction. Prior to his transformation into The Tribal Chief, Reigns had already achieved the status of Grand Slam Champion and had won numerous World Championships and the Royal Rumble.
Undoubtedly, Reigns would have been a first-ballot Hall of Famer and a headlining act with his victories over John Cena, The Undertaker, Triple H, Batista, and Randy Orton, among other notable opponents. His impressive resume speaks for itself.
Despite the individual nature of it, Reigns’ comeback in 2020 has resulted in a positive outcome for him, as it has garnered the support, recognition, and embrace of the WWE Universe.
Despite facing years of rejection and resentment from fans, things changed when he took on the role of The Tribal Chief. While he was still disliked, he was now recognized, embraced, and admired by viewers worldwide.
