‘1923’ Interview: Brandon Sklenar Discusses Spencer’s Season 2 Storyline and Upcoming Collaborations with Taylor Sheridan

As Season 2 of Taylor Sheridan’s acclaimed Yellowstone prequel, 1923, approaches the midpoint, Paramount+ viewers can expect a series of electrifying developments. Star Brandon Sklenar, who portrays the lead character Spencer Dutton, hints that several riveting moments are on the horizon before this season’s conclusion.

This second season has already kept fans on their toes with unexpected twists as Spencer embarks on his daunting journey back to the Yellowstone ranch from Kenya. His involvement in the ongoing battle against developers such as Donald Whitfield (Timothy Dalton) and Banner Creighton (Jerome Flynn) is about to intensify, especially since Zane Davis (Brian Geraghty) is currently incapacitated due to a severe head injury sustained while defending his wife, Alice (Joy Osmanski).Meanwhile, Spencer’s pregnant wife, Alexandra (Julia Schlaepfer), has finally arrived in America via Ellis Island in her quest to reunite with him.

According to Sklenar’s insights, the action is just beginning for Spencer as he gears up for more challenges in Montana.

Brandon Sklenar’s Excitement for 1923 Season 2

In a conversation with The Mary Sue, Sklenar enthusiastically discussed the pivotal scenes awaiting Spencer in the latest installment of 1923. He shared his initial reaction upon receiving the scripts, expressing his elation: “This whole season is such a gift. I just get to do really cool stuff. The little kid in you is just over the moon.”It appears this season promises even more thrilling encounters than his previous lion encounter in Season 1.

Sklenar’s versatility as an actor is not lost on viewers, as he showcased his talent in last year’s It Ends With Us and is set to star in the forthcoming Blumhouse horror film, Drop, as well as Paul Feig’s thriller, The Housemaid. However, he expressed a particular fondness for Westerns, emphasizing the joy of returning to the 1923 universe:

“Oh, the best. The best feeling. I love it so much, it’s my favorite thing. This season was the most—I mean, it’s probably the most I’ve ever enjoyed. I love acting; it’s my favorite thing in the world. Just being on set and doing scenes and building these realities. But this season, everyone was so excited to get back to it; we’re all just dying to do it. Everyone involved really loves what they’re doing, and that’s a big component, even if it’s heavy or hot or cold. I just enjoy the hell out of it.”

Moreover, Sklenar hinted at future collaborations with Taylor Sheridan beyond the realm of 1923 and Yellowstone, expressing his desire to continue working with the renowned creator: “I’d love to keep working with that man. I get his tone really well and understand his vision. I’m eternally grateful to him for giving me this role and would love to keep partnering with him.”
