Despite facing criticism, Martina Navratilova has stood by her belief that trans athletes should not be allowed to compete in women’s sports. She argues that the success of trans athletes in women’s tournaments takes away from the accomplishments of female athletes.

The renowned tennis player has consistently voiced opposition towards transgender athletes participating in women’s sporting events. Most recently, the athlete responded to Jacqueline Mautner, a transgender cyclist, who discussed being targeted for possessing an unjust advantage.

A member of X’s community claimed that there were not even hundreds of transgender athletes. In response, Navratilova argued that there were actually thousands of transgender athletes who have won hundreds of events in the women’s division.

“You’re right- there not hundreds of trans athletes competing- there are thousands and winning hundreds of competitions- stick to talking about thing you know about- sports is not it,”the former World No. 1 tweeted.

In response to Mautner’s video, Martina Navratilova recommended that she participate in male competitions if she was unhappy with being singled out.

“Hey Mautner- here is an idea- if you don’t like being singled out and also don’t want to slow down in your wins, how about racing against males??? Problem solved!?”the Czech-American said.

She reiterated her belief that women’s sports should remain exclusively for females and stated that it should not be seen as a place for men who were unsuccessful in their own athletic careers.

“Been angry for years now- the unfairness is off the charts. I will say it again- keep women’s sports female. It is not the place for any (failed) male athletes”.
