The current gaming realm is buzzing with discussions about the apparent influx of remakes and remasters. However, I find myself at odds with this sentiment of discontent.
While I too yearn for fresh, inventive AAA intellectual properties (IPs), the reality is that we are not being bombarded with such initiatives from AAA developers. Instead, we frequently find ourselves eagerly anticipating the next standout AA or indie title as larger studios focus on sequels like “Concord 2″or “Fortnite: Infinite 2K26.”
Given the present trends in gaming, I have no qualms about revisiting beloved titles from my youth, especially those that have been thoughtfully remade for contemporary audiences. Although these remakes may lack originality, they are based on solid foundations I know I will enjoy.
The PlayStation 3 era was somewhat lackluster for Sony compared to its other consoles, leaving behind a number of excellent IPs that have unfortunately faded into obscurity.
In this context, let’s explore ten forgotten PS3 games that I believe are ripe for a modern remake. We are specifically focusing on hidden gems that have not made a cultural resurgence beyond the PS3, unlike franchises such as Dark Souls, inFAMOUS, or Uncharted.
1. Brütal Legend
A Hilariously Epic Journey

Brütal Legend embodies the quirky charm of its PS3 origins, featuring Jack Black as the voice of the protagonist, a roadie thrust into a metal-themed underworld controlled by a demon. Its humor resembles that of Tenacious D in all the right ways.
Imagine remaking this game with Jack Black aging gracefully into an even more bewildered version of his character. This nostalgic title could leverage his current popularity from projects like Minecraft, Mario, and Kung Fu Panda, making it a highly sellable product.
2. Driver: San Francisco
Unique Gameplay Mechanics

While the Driver series originated on the PS1, “San Francisco”introduced a distinctive twist to the franchise, combining crime with fantastical driving mechanics. The protagonist’s ability to possess other drivers added a layer of creativity rarely seen in contemporary games.
Revisiting this title would not only capture the essence of what made it unique but also showcase the vibrant city as the backdrop for thrilling driving escapades.
3. Folklore
Bizarre Yet Beautiful

Folklore captivated players with its eccentric gameplay, exploring realms between Ireland and the Netherworld through a dual-protagonist narrative. Players could capture mythical creatures to aid their journey—a quirky premise that definitely deserves a modern revival.
Envisioning this title entrusted to Atlus, with a focus on modern gameplay mechanics while preserving its essence, could lead to a fascinating remake.
4. MotorStorm
Off-Road Racing Awaits

MotorStorm once reigned supreme as a thrilling racing game, blending breathtaking graphics with even more remarkable physics. Its absence from the modern console landscape is disappointing, especially for fans who remember the exhilarating experience it provided.
A revival could cater to both nostalgia and new players, and imagine how incredible it would be as a PSVR2 title, offering immersive off-road racing like never before!
5. PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale
A Second Chance

Despite initial excitement, PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale was a letdown for many players. While it sought to compete with Super Smash Bros, the game struggled with its mechanics, particularly with the requirement of special moves to secure kills.
Revisiting this concept with a refined approach could lead to success, especially with the possibility of innovative character interactions. A new iteration could finally deliver the fun and excitement gamers were hoping for.
6. Puppeteer
A Charming Reimagining

Puppeteer, although tucked away on the PS3, presents a whimsical side-scrolling adventure with a unique story steeped in deeper themes. The potential for revitalization under the creative minds of Team Asobi could unlock a delightful experience for both old and new audiences.
7. Resistance: Fall of Man
Reviving the FPS Genre

At one point, Sony boasted a robust lineup of first-person shooters, with Resistance: Fall of Man standing out as a compelling alternative to Halo. Recent reports indicated a desire from Insomniac to revive this series, emphasizing the demand for more diverse shooters in today’s gaming landscape.
8. The Saboteur
An Unforgettable Experience

Pitting players in a stylish open-world environment set against the backdrop of WWII, The Saboteur blends elements of stealth, action, and a cinematic narrative. Despite its solid reviews at launch, it remains a title that has yet to be revisited, leaving many to wonder about its potential resurgence.
9. Tokyo Jungle
A Survival Tale Reimagined

Tokyo Jungle offers a unique premise where wildlife tackles the challenges of a human-free Tokyo. Its potential for a modern adaptation could easily translate into an engaging MMO or live-service experience, bringing new life to its post-apocalyptic survival concept.
10. Vanquish
A Stylish Return

Having emerged from PlatinumGames, Vanquish is a sleek, high-octane third-person shooter that brims with exhilarating action and boss encounters. Although it received a remaster for the PS4, this cult classic deserves a full remake to captivate a new generation of players.
This game could deliver a fresh IP in the ever-growing third-person shooter landscape, giving players something to be truly excited about.
