Jujutsu Kaisen has a unique perspective on the concept of time, portraying it as a silent adversary that often catches characters unprepared. While they contend with powerful curses, they simultaneously grapple with deadlines that feel inescapable. Some characters face the harsh reality of limited lifespans, while others shoulder burdens far too significant for their age, and some remain oblivious to the relentless passage of time until chaos surrounds them.
These individuals lived as if their time was borrowed, leading many of their arcs to appear truncated or unfulfilled. This is not due to narrative shortcomings, but rather reflects the inherent nature of their paths, which were never designed for longevity. Such thematic elements imbue Jujutsu Kaisen with its weighty atmosphere. Some souls blaze brightly yet fleetingly, while others are dragged down by irreversible choices. Each narrative serves as a poignant reminder that once time is lost, it is irretrievable.

A Choice Made Too Late to Matter

Riko Amanai’s life was stripped away before she could truly experience freedom. Destined to become the next Star Plasma Vessel, she was condemned to sacrifice herself long before she could discover her identity. While characters like Gojo and Geto endeavored to shield her, the hope of choice proved fleeting.
Ultimately, Riko made her choice to live, only to be tragically shot soon after. Her untimely death shattered Geto and left Gojo grappling with grief. Rather than simply a footnote in their journeys, Riko served as the catalyst for their impending disintegration. She deserved far more time than fate allowed.
9 Kento Nanami
The Clock That Was Always Louder Than His Voice

Kento Nanami appeared composed and dependable—always the go-to person during tumultuous times. However, deep down, he understood that his place in the sorcerer’s world was not eternal. He symbolically clocked out, shedding his tie at precisely 6:00, attempting to leave that life behind.
Nevertheless, he consistently ran toward his fate. Drawn back to the fray out of obligation, he mentored Yuji and defended others, often at his own expense, even when grievously wounded. His tragic end at the hands of Mahito felt like the demise of something precious.Chosen as a hero against his will, he lacked the desire for martyrdom; he merely sought to prevent additional loss of life.
8 Junpei Yoshino
A Story That Barely Had Time to Begin

Used as a mere pawn, Junpei’s tragic transformation ended in his brutal demise. Yuji’s valiant effort to save him fell short. His attempts to instigate meaningful change devolved into destruction, showcasing a slow yet remarkable descent. Audience members observe as Geto spirals deeper into darkness, unable to envision a path forward. In the end, Gojo is compelled to take his life—or so he believes. Even postmortem, Geto is exploited; his essence morphs into something else entirely. He lost not only his time in this life but also his dignity in death.
6 Yu Haibara
A Smile That Should’ve Lasted Longer

Loyalty That Wasn’t Enough

Although Kuroi survived, the trauma she endured took its toll. She eventually fades from the narrative, just another victim of a ruthless system.
