Non-playable characters (NPCs) are critical to the immersive experience in video games. They enrich the narrative and enhance gameplay, offering essential context that players rely on to engage deeply with a title. Their significance in the gaming world is unmistakable.
Many NPCs resonate with players on a profound level, often becoming memorable icons that elevate the emotional impact of their respective games. The craft of NPC creation is highly valued; many fans, including myself, yearn for standalone adventures that allow us to explore these characters’ intricate backstories.
In recognition of the remarkable contributions of these fictional figures, I present a curated list of ten iconic NPCs that truly deserve their own spinoff games.
10 Meta Knight
Solitary and Underrated

Franchise(s) | Kirby, Super Smash Bros. |
Most prominent appearance | Super Smash Bros. Ultimate |
Reflecting on my childhood favorite, Kirby’s Adventure, it’s clear that Meta Knight stands out as one of gaming’s most intriguing yet overlooked characters. Although he plays a recurring role in the Kirby franchise, he has yet to take center stage in his own game.
Even his appearances in the Super Smash Bros. series have not fully showcased his potential. With the right storyline and gameplay mechanics, Meta Knight could shine as the lead in an action-platformer. Given his longstanding impact on gaming, he undeniably deserves more recognition.
9 Victor Sullivan
Back to Prime Sully

Franchise(s) | Uncharted |
Most prominent appearance | Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End |
While I may not identify as a die-hard Uncharted enthusiast, I cannot overlook the charm Victor Sullivan brings to the franchise. His role in Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End solidified his character in my mind, leaving me intrigued by his largely unexplored backstory.
Continuing the franchise, I advocate for a spinoff that dives into Sully’s prior escapades. He has a wealth of exciting experiences that could easily fill an engaging standalone game, catering to fans while exploring new narrative avenues without risking the series’ integrity.
8 Tommy Miller
In Need of Closure

Franchise(s) | The Last of Us |
Most prominent appearance | The Last of Us Part 2 |
Considering the unfolding narratives from Naughty Dog, a game that highlights Joel’s brother, Tommy Miller, would be superb. While a full sequel may not be necessary, a focused spinoff could reveal Tommy’s feelings and experiences, providing depth to an already layered universe.
The open-ended conclusion of The Last of Us Part 2 leaves room for exploration. A format akin to Uncharted: The Lost Legacy would offer fans an exciting opportunity to connect with Tommy’s journey and seek closure.
7 Atreus
The Heir to the Legacy

Franchise(s) | God of War |
Most prominent appearance | God of War: Ragnarok |
Although I have hopes that Santa Monica Studio will explore new intellectual properties, the transition of the series’ focus to Atreus seems inevitable. God of War: Ragnarök sets this up perfectly, showcasing Atreus’ complex character and potential narrative depth.
As his role significantly expanded in the latest installment, it’s only logical for the developers to plan a future dedicated to him. If they were to experiment with gameplay mechanics that differentiate Atre
